Marilyn Velvet Collection Third Vintage 2004 Napa Valley, California (1.5L).
A chance meeting in Hollywood between photographer Tom Kelley and an aspiring but unknown actress led to a two-hour photo session on May 27, 1949 that made history and established Marilyn Monroe as the ultimate sex symbol of the 20th century. The most famous of the photographs appeared as the Centerfold of the inaugural edition of Playboy in 1953. By exclusive agreement with Playboy Enterprises, that historic photo portrait is now the label of The Velvet Collection 2004. Each label of Velvet Collection wine is covered with a protective vinyl overlay that, when removed, reveals the complete, original portrait. "This is the third release of The Velvet Collection series and comes from the 2004 vintage. It is a proprietary blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 48% Merlot from the Napa Valley. The rich red color, aromas of mature black fruits and exotic spices of anise, vanilla, and clove are intriguing. This wine displays the firmness of Cabernet and is enhanced by a very luscious Merlot. This is a wine with an outstanding pedigree and it can be expected to evolve beautifully over the years." - John McKay, Winemaker
